Turning back the hands of time neil sedaka live (Super Song)

I have too advise that earphones are the only way to enjoy this fantastic music, The song turning back the hands of time is sung by Neil Sadaka, and is from his CD sadaka classical, not an easy disc to find, but is the most stunning compilation of operatic Arias ever, that have been completely lyrically rewritten. The lyrics are truely magnificent, I could not recommend it highly enough for the lovers of good music. I have decided to reupload this, the first time the quality of you tube was not good, and the video is a very playful one which didn't go down too good on the old you tube player I hope you enjoy and appreciate this music as much as I love it.David. Top 10 Women in Sports

Sports have been instrumental in advancing the limits of human performance. Men have traditionally been at the forefront of this challenge, but women have stepped up their involvement which broadened sports' appeal and opened up a new competitive front. Here are a few of the women who have broken through barriers to become icons of excellence.

1. Mia Hamm.

The world's best all-around female soccer player showed that females can excel in the male-dominated sport-- and how! Mia powered the US women's team to the gold medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She followed that up by leading the US to win the 1999 Women's World Cup. Amazingly, Mia was the world's leading goal scorer in 1999, surpassing the output of the best male players during that year

2. Paula Radcliffe.

The best female distance runner of all time, Paula is the current world record holder for the women's 10k run and owns four of the five fastest times in the history of women's marathon. Her current world marathon record of 2:15:25 is also one of the highest scoring performances ever.

3. Nadia Comaneci.

Only 14 years old, Nadia stunned the world when she scored seven perfect 10's during the gymnastics competition of the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Before her phenomenal performance, no one had been able to achieve perfection during competition, so much so that the scoreboards didn't have a '10' and had to display a '1' to register Nadia's perfect scores.

4. Joanie Laurer.

Known as 'Chyna' among wrestling fans, she displayed tremendous will power to earn a place in the rough and tumble world of pro wrestling. Chyna was referred to as "The Ninth Wonder of the World" for her large and powerful physique. Her trademark "low blow" was the secret weapon that allowed her to win the Intercontinental Championship title twice.

5. Cheryl Miller.

Inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in1995, she was an All-America team member four times, a Naismith Player of the Year three times, a member of the USC NCAA champion basketball team two times, and led the US women's basketball team to the Olympic gold medal in '84. Dubbed as the best player ever in women's basketball, Cheryl's confidence is such that she would flip her wrists in triumph even before the ball goes through the net.

6. Birgit Schmidt-Fischer.

The greatest female canoeist of all time has won the gold at six different Olympic Games spanning 24 years. No one from her sport has come near her total of 37 medals, including 27 golds which she won at the World Championships from 1979 to 1998. Birgit's haul of eight Olympic medals is a record which experts predict will not be broken for a long time.

7. Nancy Lopez.

She remains the only woman to be named Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year - in one season. At age 12, Nancy won her first golf tournament with practically no playing experience against more experienced golfers. At age 21, she won nine tournaments, five of them in a row, to record the most amazing season ever for an LPGA rookie. At age 30, she was inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame, the third youngest player to receive the honor.

8. Steffi Graf.

She has been called the greatest female tennis player of all time - a "machine" that struck down her opponents with merciless precision during her 17-year career. Steffi had the singular record of winning all four Grand Slam events plus an Olympic gold medal-in a single year (1988). She's also the only player to have won all four majors at least four times.

9. Tracy Caulkins.

The most versatile swimmer ever has won national titles in all four strokes-plus the individual medley that combines all of them! Tracy went on to win 3 Olympic golds, 5 world records, 63 American records, and 48 individual national titles.

10. Julie Krone.

One Of the best female jockey's of all time proved that women can ride high in the 'sport of kings'. She was the first woman to win a riding title at a major track. She holds the record of being one of only four jockeys to win 6 races in one day. She's also the only female jockey to ever win a Triple Crown race.

As sports continue to raise the bar, women champions will continue to inspire not just the members of their specie but anyone who aspires to reach the height of his or her potential.

What You Need to Know About HDTV

Do you want to get a HDTV for your home? Want to know a bit more about high definition before buying? Here are some tips, advice and information that will help you with your purchase of a HDTV.

With so many different technologies out there, the process of deciding can be a bit confusing. There is an option and that option is to get to be familiar with the technology.

Intimately knowing this technology will result in better buying choices. First realize that even a basic understanding will help in getting the right kind of HDTV for your home.

HDTV sets of today are working with different technologies than existing televisions. For example most older televisions operate with CRT. This cathode ray tube technology results in a heavy television.

Unless you are into body building, these televisions are not fun! The best solution is HDTV, and here is why. Today, you can find LCD and plasma televisions.

Though plasma is still heavy, the LCD models are perfect. They have a small footprint, so this allows getting a bigger screen size for the same space available, most of the time.

There is also the option to place the HDTV onto a wall. Wall mounting is becoming more and more popular, and LCD technology is great at picture quality too.

There is some other factors, but the biggest to remember is compatibility. If you have cable or satellite, make sure that it works with the television you want to buy. This is important so that you don't have to replace all your consumer electronic devices because of the television.

Would you like the latest HDTV without paying what your neighbour might of had to? Check out here to compare LCD TV, find and buy HD TV.

DISH Network HDTV - What It is and Where to Get the Best Deals

HDTV (high definition TV) is all the rage these days, and for good reason. An HDTV picture is so clear you feel like you're looking at a scene through a window. Here's a guide to DISH Network HDTV, plus where to get the best deals.

DISH Network HDTV

First there was analog TV, also known as over-the-air TV. The picture was grainy and prone to white specks and double images, but at least you had a picture. Then along came digital TV which used a totally different broadcast system to produce a sharper, clearer picture. And now we have HDTV with a picture so clear you feel like you're part of the scene.

HDTV really does produce a near-lifelike picture, and when you couple it with surround sound audio, you get an amazing TV viewing experience.

DISH Network has nearly 100 HD channels, however in order to view them you must have an HD compatible TV and an HD receiver. The good news is DISH Network will give you a free HD receiver when you sign up for their satellite TV service.

DISH Network HDTV Channels

Dish Network has HD channels for all TV viewing tastes. You can get your major network stations like ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox, plus get updated news casts 24/7 with HD News.

HD movie channels include HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, Film Fest, TNT, and HDNET Movies. And if you want to watch a recently-released movie without having to go to your local video store, you can get it on pay-per-view with just the click of your remote button.

If you're a sports fan you can watch your favorite sports - football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, tennis, and golf - on channels like the NFL Network, ESPN HD, World Sport HD, Rush TV, NHL Network TV, and others.

If it's special interest programs you're looking for, DISH Network has Animal Planet, Arts and Entertainment, Discovery HD, Food Network, Home and Garden TV, National Geographic Channel, The History Channel, The Learning Channel, The Science Channel, and even a channel devoted to treasure hunting.

DVD Players- When Multi-Disc Players Make Good Sense

Now that DVD players have been popular for quite a number of years, prices are quite reasonable. Single disc players well under $100 abound providing options for almost every budget. For many people a single disc player meets their needs nicely as they can view only one DVD movie at a time anyway. For some consumers however, other features are well worth a few extra dollars.

One of the first options buyers have to consider is whether or not a multi-disc or mega storage type of DVD player would be a good choice for them. While some multi-disc players allow users to keep up to 4 or 5 discs in the player at any given time, others can store up to 400 discs.

Multi-disc DVD players offer four primary advantages for consumers:

o Ease of Use: Multi-disc DVD players allow users to keep multiple discs in the player which can eliminate time spent shuffling through discs and loading them. Most have good search functions that allow users to easily find the disc they want and to initiate play with the push of a button from their remote control. In the case of a large collection of discs this is a particularly attractive option.

o Saving Space: If a user has a large collection of discs, a mega storage DVD player can potentially store their collection eliminating the need for additional shelving on which to house their collection. All discs are maintained in the player and available for immediate access.

o Dual Use: Most DVD players offer the ability to not only play DVD movies but audio CDs as well. Users can switch between movie viewing and listening to audio with the push of a button. With a multi-disc DVD player, many owners opt to forgo the purchase of a separate CD player completely.

o Something for the Whole Family: Face it, not everyone living in the house has the same taste in music or movies. Being able to store and play multiple discs, can be the only fair way to give quick and easy access to the collections of multiple individuals.

Certainly, there are many choices to make and features to consider when selecting a DVD player. Deciding on the disc capacity requires only a simple look at the size of the person's DVD/CD collection and determining whether or not quick and easy access to those discs is critical.

X1 Football Helmet Incorporates New Technology to Protect Players From Concussions

A lot of attention has been paid to the dangers of concussions in football since the death of former NFL defensive back Andre Waters and the release of a report that indicated concussions were tied to depression in ex-NFL players. Those incidents have led the NFL to undertake several new initiatives and, across the nation, football programs from the high-school to professional levels are taking a more proactive approach to preventing head injuries. A former Harvard quarterback and his innovative company are also contributing to the cause with their newest invention - the X1 football helmet.

The X1 is the product of Xenith LLC, a company established in 2004 by Vincent Ferrara - a Harvard quarterback in the mid-90s and a graduate of Columbia's business and medical schools. Ferrara founded Xenith with the mission of advancing safety and activity through innovation and education, and the company is currently focusing most of its attention on finding ways to reduce concussions through new technology. Much of the technology Xenith has developed so far is featured in the X1, which incorporates an innovative head protection system not currently seen in any other helmet. The system is called Xenith Adaptive Head Protection(TM), and it's comprised of patent pending "Aware-Flow(TM) Shock Absorbers" and a new fitting method known as "Fit Seeker(TM)". According to Xenith, the combined effect of these two technologies is designed to reduce the risk and severity of concussions and other traumatic brain injuries.

Here's how the system works: the X1 is equipped with 18 Aware-Flow Shock Absorbers embedded between the outer shell of the helmet and a flexible interior head piece. Each shock absorber is a lightweight, hollow disk made from thermoplastic urethane, with a small hole in the center that allows air to flow in and out. Unlike the foam in standard football helmets, the shock absorbers respond differently to high, medium and low impacts. The disks absorb a low-impact hit by slowly letting air out and compressing. But with a more forceful (high-impact) hit, air pressure inside the disk creates greater resistance - slowing down the speed at which the disks compress even further. The overall purpose of the X1's shock absorption system is to reduce the sudden movements of the head that often cause concussions. Meanwhile, the "Fit Seeker" component assures that the helmet doesn't go flying off during impact.

Recently, the X1 football helmet received approval from the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) - a nonprofit organization that commissions research and attempts to establish standards for athletic equipment. No word yet on whether the NFL is looking into this new technology, or when the X1 will be available for retail purchase.

You can find more information about Xenith and the technology involved in the X1 football helmet at http://www.xenith.com

Streaming Media Players - Top 3 Been Purchased Online

Streamers (the tiny popular black boxes) are the new rage and are becoming more and more available, with a huge choice the price is also dropping dramatically with competition, which is fantastic news for consumers. Everyone wants the best and highest quality but would also like the most valuable and smallest price, and gladly, this is very possible. Here, are the top three Streamer Media Players been purchased today!

No 3 Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu-ray Disc Player

The BDP-S570 is the new and improved model of the Sony BDP-S300 Blu Ray Disk player wi. The fast load system is excellent and much faster than the older 300s models. The set up is equally as simple and straight forward, and access to Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, You Tube, etc. is at the click of a button.

The picture and sound is fantastic, and there are no lag times in watching anything, and the increased speed in the network allows true High Definition playbacks. Though this is a very popular streamer been purchased at the moment, at $150 I still believe there are better quality streamers available at a cheaper price.

No 2 Apple TV MC572LL/A

This is the system I personally own (so I will try not to be biased ha!) This is the latest from Apple (2010) and is an amazing compliment to your home theater. It has so many features, yet so simple to use, allowing you to stream whatever is on your iTunes to your TV and home theater system. It has built in support for Netflix, You Tube and a few other internet based media content providers and the picture quality is superb.

The menu is very simple - Movies, TV, Internet, Computer and the settings allows you to change the various Apple TV options. At under $100, the Apple TV is competitively priced with other streaming options.

No 1 Roku XD Streaming Player 1080p

Flat Screen HDTV Connections

Compared to setting up all the connections, buying a flat screen HDTV is the easy part. Indeed, connecting the correct cables to the right inputs and outputs of the proper equipment can be a challenge, especially for those who aren't tech-savvy, so make sure you read the basics first before you take on the task.

Types of Connections

Usually, a flat screen HDTV carries two basic types of connections - analog connections and digital or HD connections, although some new ones only come with the latter. Analog connections are comprised of radio frequency (RF), composite video and S-video connections, which can be used to connect cable boxes, VCRs, DVD players, antennas and some game consoles, of which S-video has the capability of delivering the highest video quality. There are also analog audio connections for older audio receivers and stereo components.

HD connections, on the other hand, consist of component video or YPbPr, FireWire or IEEE 1394, VGA or PC input, DVI and HDMI connections, which are what you should be looking for if you want to enjoy the highest video and audio quality from your HDTV. Check for HDMI connections, in particular, since these allow you to get superb video and audio quality from most HD sources, including HD cable boxes, Blu-Ray players, surround sound speakers, HDTV tuners and newer game consoles.

Connecting Your Cable Box

To get cable on your HDTV, you simply have to connect the wire running from the cable outlet to the box then plug the box to the back of your HDTV using an RF, composite, S-video or HDMI connection, depending on the type of cable box and the input you have available on your HDTV. If you want to record your favorite shows on an HD DVR like a TiVo box, you have to connect your cable box to the DVR first instead of connecting it directly to the HDTV, then connect the DVR to the HDTV via the connections provided.

Connecting your Speakers

To enjoy the superior sound quality offered by your HDTV, it is recommended that you connect external speakers, whether a pair of stereo speakers or four, six or seven surround sound speakers. You cannot connect them directly to your HDTV, though. Rather, you have to connect them first to the AV receiver that comes with the system then connect the AV receiver to the HDTV. Make sure you connect the wires to the right ports on the receiver. For example, if the pair of wires are coming from the front right speaker, they should be connected to the inputs labeled front right, specifically to the ports that match the color of each.

Connecting Your Computer

You may also want to use your flat screen HDTV as your computer monitor. If you do, you will need to get a high quality video card for your computer then connect the CPU to the HDTV via the output provided on the card. If the card only has an S-video, component video or VGA output, you will need to run an audio cable from the soundcard of the CPU to the HDTV, as well. You can also connect your laptop to your HDTV if you want to use it as your DVD or Blu-Ray player, which is especially a good idea if your laptop has an HDMI output.

Connecting Your Game Console

You can also enjoy playing video console games on your flat screen HDTV. In fact, most HDTVs have a dedicated gaming mode that disables video processing to eliminate controller delay. There are two ways to connect your game console - through your AV receiver or directly to your HDTV. Either way, the type of cable you need depends on your game console. Wii game consoles have component video outputs while Xbox and PlayStation consoles have HDMI for superior video quality.

As for your other equipment, simply look at their available outputs then shop for the correct cable. Don't hesitate to ask at the electronics store if you're not sure about which cable you are looking for. Your set-up depends on the types of equipment you have as well as how many of them you want to use with your flat screen HDTV. If you are using a lot of equipment, you might want to go with a wireless hub so the back of your HDTV isn't too crowded. You might want to get a universal remote control, as well.

How to Find the Best Blu Ray Player Price

Are you searching for how to find the best Blu Ray player price? You are certainly not alone, Blu Ray disc players are extremely popular, and with the prices dropping everywhere, it can be difficult to know when you're getting a good deal, or getting dumped with sub-standard equipment. How to find the best price, is a major concern, and why I decided to write this article about finding the best possible deal for your money.

What makes Blu Ray players such a high demand item?

Imagine buying your favorite movie from when you were a kid, and getting it home, ready to watch. You get settled into your favorite chair, with your popcorn, ready to see your favorite movie, possibly for the first time since you were a little kid. Just to have the picture on the TV be so low quality, the movie is almost ruined.

But, imagine being able to watch your favorite movie in crystal clear, high def quality. Sitting in your favorite chair, reliving moments of your childhood all over again, with no picture problems to distract you. Sounds awesome, doesn't it. Taking advantage of the features of today's High Definition televisions, movies are the next step in the progression of home theater entertainment.

When looking to get your own player, there are 2 major keys to keep in mind. Your TV must be able to handle High Definition, or high quality image inputs. The cables used are very important, Composite connections at a minimum, HDMI (High Definition Media Input) are recommended. There's nothing more satisfying that watching a huge space battle, or reliving your favorite scene's in the same, if not better quality than when you first saw it in the theater, years ago.

When you decide to buy your own Blu Ray player, often the details of the players can be confusing or the picture can be poor because of a poor quality TV.

How do you find the best Blu Ray player for the best price?

There is no shortage of stores that offer deals and specials. Some offer discounts, some offer combo's with movies or TV's, and some simply have lower prices. Some even offer free shipping, if you need to return it, or send it in for servicing.

Finding the best deal for your money, among the hundreds of potential deals online, is something that takes knowledge and experience. Knowing how to find the best deal can cause frustration and end with little results. Instead, finding someone who is knowledgeable about Home Entertainment and Blu Ray players, will end a lot of your frustration, and help you in the end.

To find the best Blu Ray player price, be sure to visit This blog. It has some of the best deals available for your new Blu Ray players, and will help you save some money.

Jannifer Batten - The Guitar Queen

The buzz on Jennifer Batten began rising from the guitar underground in the late '80's. The guitar magazines promptly picked up on Jennifer, chronicling her savvy musicianship and highly original approach to the electric guitar in print. On Guitar for the Practicing Musician's premier compilation record, GPM's editor wrote, "It was Jennifer's version of John Coltrane's "Giant Steps" that was considered by her peers the 'scariest'and most requested cut on the disc." At one point Batten was in 6 different bands at once playing everything from straight ahead rock, to metal, to fusion, to funk. Her video credits have included Natalie Cole's "Wild Women Do", Michael Jackson's "Moonwalker", Sara Hickman's "Take It Like A Man", and a feature interview in Hot Guitarist's video magazines premier issue. A major turning point came in 1987 when she was selected from over 100 guitarists to play in Michael Jackson's highly skilled band which toured the world for one and a half years playing for over 4.5 million people. The Michael Jackson tour helped intensify her drive and musical vision. Jennifer wasted no time after the Bad Tour's grand finale, diving into work on her own album with renown producer Michael Sembello. The glorious results can be heard on 'Above, Below, and Beyond', the title appropriately describing the interesting diversity within. With this debut release, the world at large learned what all the excitement was about. Shortly after the record's release in the spring ...

Phantom of the Floppera

Visit georgewhiteside.net for more information! Test run of my (d)iskette (O)rgan doing Toccata & Fugue. People have made floppy drives sing before, but this is my personal take on it. Features two 3 1/2" drives and two 5 1/4" drives connected to a PIC18f14k50 microcontroller. It interfaces to any MIDI source via MIDI over USB. Straight MIDI would also be possible with an additional small circuit and some minor firmware changes. This initial version can respond to all 128 MIDI notes, and pitch bends +/- 2 semitones. As it can produce only four simultaneous notes, and each drive has a different range and tonal characteristics, best results are obtained by arranging compositions by hand. However, it features two modes of operation: in one mode, MIDI channels 1 through 4 are played directly on floppy drives 1 through 4. In the other mode, all 16 MIDI channels are read, and notes are "intelligently" divvied out on a first-come, first-serve basis. "Note stealing" ensures that melody lines sound, but chords are often cut short. One or the other produces acceptable results for many unmodified MIDI files straight out of your favorite media player. I apologize for the poor video quality. :) *** Update Feb. 10, 2011: Wow, I just want to give a HUGE thank-you to every one of you for the overwhelmingly positive response! It truly means a lot to me. I'm reading all your comments, and I've been answering individual questions--but due to popular demand, I will be posting a web site with ...

Disc Video Production By Means Of Duplication Vs Replication

Contrary to popular beliefs, most if not very few duplicated discs will play properly on DVD Players, computers, or any ready-made disc drives. This is mostly caused by manufacturers not agreed upon a standard or a universal player and computer drives as they produce for the mass markets; however, it is not the case for CD ROM. For that reason, it is important to seek out a proper company for your DVD duplication?

Although technology is forever advancing, even faster than projected, there are some adjustments in the marketplace that makes this issue relatively a small matter given the recent release of new DVD Players and computer drives; both to businesses, corporations, and households alike; and some Recording Studios in Miami do have these upgrades as well.

When it comes to replicating your video discs, it's best you find a company that is experienced and capable of providing you quality service. Such companies can be found by searching using phrases like: VProduction Companies in Miami and of course Miami V Production and you can sometimes find one very close to you in your local market.

Use the following key phrases if you are living in Miami, FL: Production Companies in Miami or V Production Companies in FL.

Blu Ray Players - 4 Questions You May Be Asking

These common Blu Ray questions pop up every day. Are you ready to see if you know the answers?

1-Explain high definition blu ray players

What is / are blu ray DVD players? Good question. Blu ray technology according to Wikipedia , is the name given to the Blu-ray Disc because of the blue laser used to read and write on these types of discs. Since the wavelength of the blurays light beam is much 's shorter , a lot more data can be installed on a Blu-ray Disc compared to a typical DVD disc which is burned using a red beam light. How much more info can a Blu-ray Disc store? Believe it or not, it can store approximately six times the amount of a two-layer DVD, and even as much as ten and a half times that of a standard DVD. Now you can see why they can put all of the information needed to give you a better , clearer picture on a single disc.

A blu ray player then is simply the piece of equipment that plays blu-ray discs just like a dvd player plays dvd's.

2- Can you play blu ray disks on regular dvd players

So do blu ray dvds work on regular players? Perhaps you have been wondering about that. Unfortunately the Blu-Ray Discs will not play in your run of the mill DVD player. Why is that? Well remeber what we learned in question number 1? The bluray disc uses a Blue/violet beam of light to read the data that a DVD players red laser will not be a able to read.

So it looks like you will have to upgrade your DVD player to a blu ray if you plan on buying and watching your 1080P high def movies the way they were meant to be seen.

And by the way, that goes for HD-DVD technology as well. HD-DVD players use another kind of blue laser that can not read Blu-Ray Discs, just as Blu-Ray players can not read HD-DVD's

3- Can you play regular DVD's in a Blu-ray player?

Now this is some good news if you are outfitting a new home theater room. No you do not have to buy a DVD player as well. Yes, Blu-Ray players can play standard DVDs. And don't worry...they don't change the DVD formatting or alter the disk in any way. In fact they will look even better then they do when played on your old DVD player. Now don't get me wrong, a standard DVD played in a blu-ray player will not have the high definition of a Blu-Ray disc, but they certainly be upconverted to a better quality than they used to.

Here is a nice surprise they might even play your CD's as well! That means you won't need to invest in a CD player either.

4-What are multi region blu ray players?

Were you wondering about what multiregions blu ray players are? Multi-region players play all 3 regions of bluray discs that are available through out the world.

Region 1 is made up of North America, Central America, South America, Japan, Taiwan, North Korea, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia.

Region 2 is made up of Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

Region 3 is made up of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Mainland China, Pakistan, Russia, Central, and South Asia.

What this means is that if you have a Region "1" bluray player, you will not be able to play a region "2" or a region "3" disc and so on.

A multi-region player will be able to play discs from all 3 regions. Here is the thing though, don't expect to pay $199 for one of these. Prices range from$700- $1,700 bucks for each one.

How HDTV Programs Develop In The Recent Years?

It is quite familiar for some people to hear HDTV. It is currently found by a company in Japan. The first analog HDTV program has been broadcast on June 3rd, 1989. It is a latest sophisticated technology of television in recent years, and well known as a television that has higher resolution. Though it used to have analog techniques, but today the company has widen their innovation to be more sophisticated, that uses digital broadcast using video compression as well. This is one of the advantages using this product. HDTV used to be described as a television systems series that originated from the late of 1930s.

Before it comes to be HDTV, The British also had high definition TV that was started on August 1963 that was starting their service on November 1936. The British high definition TV using the Baird 240 line (mechanical) and Marconi-EMI 405 line (electronic) systems. But then, the mechanical system was stopped on February 1937. The France also invented their own new 441 line system, but that France invention then used by other countries. Then US joined in 1941 with their NTSC system. France introduced a higher resolution standard 819 lines in 1949, then this system would be high definition even by today's high definition TV standards, though it was only for monochrome.

In the United States, this technology was introduced for the first time in the 1990s by the Digital HDTV Grand Alliance. The Digital HDTV Grand Alliance is a name of a group of television companies. There was a testing field that used to test the product at about 199 sites in the United States was completed in August 14th, 1994. On July 23rd, 1996, the first public HDTV broadcast in the United States was occurred. Then, in October 29th, 1998, the American Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) HDTV systems had been launched.

There are three major parameters to identify HDTV broadcast systems; they are frame size, frame rate, and scanning system. The Frame size (in pixel) is defined as number of vertical pixels x number of horizontal pixels, for example 1080 x 1920 or 1280 x 720. The next one is Frame Rate which is identified as the number of the video frame per second. The last parameter is Scanning System that is identified with letter i stands for interlaced scanning or p as progressive scanning. There are some advantages and disadvantages using this product. The advantages are the excellent sounds quality from Dolby sound technology application. It is helpful in battering user experiences using HDTV interlaced scanning techniques.

Besides the advantages above, there are also some disadvantages using this technology. The first is DVI Compatibility require a separate sound audio which carries video signals only. Therefore, you need a HDMI-DVI connector. Another disadvantage in using it is the multi-channel audio which can not transmit the multi channel and the standard two channel stereo signal at the same time. Therefore, now is your choice to use them or not. One thing for sure, HDTV has more advantages rather that the disadvantages.

No Such Thing As an HDTV Antenna!

Over-the-air (OTA) HDTV becomes more and more popular. For someone who is used to noisy analog TV pictures, it is hard to believe how amazing a quality of HDTV broadcasts can be. In fact, HDTV channels received over the air free of charge often have better quality than the same channels received through a paid satellite HDTV subscription. All you need to enjoy OTA HDTV is a HD television with a built-in HDTV tuner and an HDTV antenna.

Huh? Which kind of antenna?! If you have Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and have never heard about the antenna type called "HDTV antenna", it's not because you were a bad student. HDTV antenna has nothing to do with physics and engineering. It was invented in marketing departments. Marketing found an effective trick to boost TV antenna sales. HDTV is a hot thing these days. Call essentially the same device HDTV antenna, and it sells better. It makes people to believe they must buy an HDTV model or HDTV optimized antenna to watch HDTV broadcasts. This is very far from truth.

HDTV antenna hype created a huge misconception with regard to TV antennas used for HDTV reception. This article is an attempt to clarify this issue.

Do you know what a regular antenna is? Antenna is a piece of metal designed to resonate at a specific frequency and to be responsive over a certain range of frequencies. TV antennas are designed to work either in the range of Ultra High Frequencies (UHF), Very High Frequencies (VHF) or both. Any station transmitting in the VHF/UHF frequency bands, can be picked up by a VHF/UHF antenna and transferred to the TV set.

All television broadcasts, digital and analog, are in the VHF and UHF bands. Over 90% of the HDTV broadcasts are in the UHF, and less than 10% in the VHF band. What is important from the antenna perspective is that HDTV falls in the bandwidth of a regular VHF/UHF antenna. Not HDTV antenna, not HDTV optimized antenna, just a normal regular TV antenna. What makes a signal to be HD is its content, the way a signal is modulated, and not the carrier frequency it is transmitted on. On the contrary, the antenna knows nothing about the signal modulation and content. Hence, you don't need an HDTV antenna to pick up the HD signal. An antenna has absolutely no idea what the signal resolution is. It can be HDTV, SDTV, NTSC, whatever. It is the job of a HDTV tuner and HD television set to demodulate the signal and to present the actual content on the screen.

Well, the antenna bandwidth and frequency response are not the only parameters that are important for clear TV reception. An antenna has other important electrical and spatial properties, such as antenna gain (directivity) and high front-to-back (F/B) ratio. One might assume that an HDTV antenna should be more powerful in terms of F/B and gain parameters. Does HDTV reception impose more stringent requirements on antenna gain and F/B ratio?

There is a wrong, yet widespread belief that you need more antenna gain to receive digital television. I don't know where the hell this belief comes from, cause the situation is exactly the opposite. HDTV has much better noise and interference immunity than the analog television and can produce high quality video at significantly lower signal-to-noise ratios.

Another important specification, F/B ratio, has to do with the antenna ability to cope with a multi-path signal propagation from the towers to the receiving antenna. The higher F/B ratio is, the better is multi-path rejection (also known as ghost suppression). Without going into technical details, we must say that HDTV signal is a bit more sensitive to multi-path cause it has slightly larger bandwidth. Multi-path causes dips in the signal spectrum, whereas we want to keep the spectrum as flat as possible. When signal content is spread over a larger portion of spectrum it is more likely to be distorted by multi-path. Basically, what TV equipment manufacturers are trying to do in the so called HDTV optimization is to keep the spectrum flat in the whole frequency band. It is important for HDTV antenna to have a high F/B ratio in some areas where ghosts may be a problem. The point is, however, that most directional, old fashioned and cheap TV antennas have F/B ratio good enough to handle multi-path propagation of HDTV signal and keep spectrum distortion at minimum. If an antenna can handle an analog signal, it can handle a digital signal as well.

There is nothing specific about a TV antenna that is used to receive HDTV. When choosing an HDTV antenna, check the really important parameters such as directivity, gain, F/B ratio. These specifications are important for reception of both, digital and analog broadcasts. The HDTV optimization is probably the least important factor you should take into account.

HDTV Receivers

HDTV (High Definition Television) is an innovative form of DTV for broadcasting TV programs. A HDTV receiver is a specially designed device to decode digital signals and enhance the quality of pictures and sounds of your home theater. The HDTV receivers are also known as HDTV set-top box or HDTV tuners.

Generally, the HDTV receivers collect and decode the signals and display the signals in 1080i and 480i or p format, where, "i" means interlaced and "p" means progressive. The HDTV receiver can also be used to display videos from cable TV, satellite TV, DVD players, or any other video source. The signals transmitted by the HDTV receivers will produce pictures with high resolution and great clarity. Apart from transmitting high quality pictures, the HDTV receivers also broadcast high quality surround sound.

When compared with other DTV receivers, the HDTV receivers come with many added advantages. Some HDTV receivers also come with access cards for security and digital video recorders. The HDTV receivers with digital video recorders can store programs up to 30 hours or 200 hours.

Though the HDTV receivers provide high quality picture and sound, they are highly sensitive to multi path distortions and more over, the HDTV receivers are very expensive and programming are limited. In spite of the downsides, there is a big demand for HDTV receivers, and a great competition in the HDTV receiver market. Today, the US market is filled with countless domestic and foreign brands of HDTV receivers. Mitsubishi, Thomson, and Samsung are some of the leading brands in HDTV receivers.

With the advance of technology, the HDTV television sets are coming with inbuilt receivers. But still, there is a great demand for external HDTV receivers. The HDTV receivers are quite expensive and the cost of a HDTV receiver will range from $300 to $1,000.

HDTV receivers can be purchased from any of the local stores, dealers, wholesalers, or online shops. Among these, an online shop is the best option for a wider choice in different types, brands, and price levels of the HDTV receivers. Carefully selected, HDTV receivers will allow you to enjoy your favorite television program with high resolution and surround sound.

The LG BD300 Network Blu-Ray Disc Player

The LG BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player is currently one of the leading Blu-ray models in the market. It is enjoying raving reviews from users worldwide and is proving to be a strong rival for the popular Sony S350 and Sony S550 models.

The most obvious feature that I love about the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player is its new design. It is barely 2.5 inches thick and has a flat and glossy black front interface. As black goes with any color, I much prefer the LG player's design to Sony's models (which are in a strange metallic blue color).

The LG BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player's audio and visual playback for Blu-ray discs is impressively crisp and clear. The start up time is fast and there are no signs of reduction in visual quality in high-speed visual sequences. DVD movies also play well on this LG movie player. The machine can up-convert DVD movies to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p resolutions. Like many players, the LG model has a 24 frames-per-second option to produce a more cinema-like quality.

Setting up the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player is very easy, as there are only 3 cables involved; the power cable, Ethernet cable and the HDMI cable. One of the best features of LG's player is its Netflix feature. Once connected to the internet, you can browse through Netflix's movie database that has over 12'000 movies and TV shows. With a modest sum of about $9 a month, you can watch an unlimited amount of movies from Netflix. You would also receive a free application and software update every month over the internet. There is also a USB port where you can plug in a thumb drive to increase the memory capacity of the player.

Inexpensive HDTV Options For Every Room of the House

You might be shocked to find out that quality HDTV is now very inexpensive. Unlike your friends who bought those giant projection TVs that have a fuzzy picture and used to invite everyone over for the game in the early part of the new millennium, your wait was worth it. How many of these monstrosities have you seen on Craigslist? Some people just want to give them away. Waiting for inexpensive HDTV was certainly worth it.

Whether you need an inexpensive HDTV for the living room, one for the bedroom, or even one for the bathroom, shopping online for HDTV is really the way to go. Not only can you view lots and lots of models, but getting it to your home is no problem. You don't need to borrow a friend's truck, or beg a neighbor to bring you to the store with their SUV. As inexpensive as HDTV might seem in your common brick-and-mortar stores, online LCD HDTV is even more inexpensive because online retailers don't have to pay for the overhead of a physical location. Why get dressed up to go out and shop when you can shop online in your pajamas. The coffee at home is lot cheaper, too.

What was considered to be inexpensive HDTV prices of last year are now expensive. Believe it or not, it is true. For example, a high-quality television that would have cost $1000 last year is now available for $500, or even less. Your wait was certainly worth it. You could probably outfit your entire home with various sizes of inexpensive HDTV devices for much less than you think. Your friends who switched from their giant projection television to a $5000 plasma 5 years ago won't believe that you were able to purchase a far better HDTV for the inexpensive price of roughly $500. It really is amazing, the superb quality you can now get for such an inexpensive price. Click here to see some inexpensive HDTV options.

VBR333 Review - A New 3D Blu-Ray Player From Vizio

Vizio has recently introduced two new 3D capable Blu-Ray Players, the VBR333 and the VBR334. They are identical players, with the same specifications. The only difference is the VBR334 comes with a HDMI cable and can only be purchased in retail clubs. The VBR333 is a Profile 2.0 player, supporting BD-Live features and Bonus View. Has high-definition playback on 3D Blu-Rays and Blu-Ray discs. With support for high-resolution audio formats. It comes equipped with integrated Wi-Fi, making access to Vizio Internet Apps very easy.

VIDEO QUALITY: Video connections for the VBR333 come in the form of a HDMI Output, Composite Video Outputs and Component Video Outputs. Unlike some 3D players, it only has one HDMI Output. You will have to bypass your Audio/Video receiver if it is not 3D capable. The HDMI connection will produce 1080p/24 video resolution for both 3D Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray discs. And of course it will upscale any standard DVD to high-definition levels.

AUDIO QUALITY: Audio connections are the HDMI Output, 2.0-ch Analog Outputs and Digital Audio Outputs - Optical and Coaxial. The player can handle decoding high-resolution Audio formats, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Or you have the option of sending these audio signals in their native bitstream form to an Audio/Video receiver to decode. This has to be accomplished through a HDMI connection, since the player lacks any multi-channel outputs.

While the VBR333 can handle 3D Blu-Ray discs, it also supports Blu-Ray, DVD, CD audio, MP3, PNG, JPEG and WMA. The USB Port can be used to playback music and view photos. HDTV Providers - The Battle Rages On

There has been a battle raging for years now, right here in the US; the battle over your television viewing habits. Cable and satellite television providers have both proclaimed victory, but the issue is far from settled. The advent of HDTV might possibly end the war, though, in the favor of satellite providers. What does the future of HDTV providers hold? There are many possibilities, though consumers will have the final say.

There are actually three players who stand to benefit from providing HDTV programming: satellite providers, cable companies and air-to-ground stations. For the uninitiated, air-to-ground stations are your local television providers, and they're about to go all digital. This means that as of 2009, you will no longer be able to watch free television on an analogue television set without a converter box. For consumers, this means that at least one more expense is on the horizon. What does this mean for providers, though?

For air-to-ground providers, it probably does not mean much. They have been steadily losing ground with some viewers, while retaining a loyal following in other sectors. The future for these providers looks much the same as today. So, what about the other two providers?

Satellite TV and cable TV providers stand to gain the most from the switch to HDTV. Once, it was though that the change to this format meant better picture resolution and better sound but reduced channels due to an increase in bandwidth consumption. In fact, one prominent proponent of HDTV even set the number of future available channels at 30! Today, this seems somewhat ridiculous. DirecTV alone has the ability to broadcast over 150 national HDTV channels and over 1,000 local channels. So, that puts that theory to bed.

Satellite television providers are the farthest along the digital road, leaving cable companies like Comcast remarkably behind the times. The satellite providers continue to add new satellites to their lineup, increasing their bandwidth and, therefore, their potential number of channels. Also in the works are HDTV capable broad band connections. Cable companies are increasing their abilities as well, though.

New technologies are in the works that will allow cable companies to match satellite providers in number of channels offered, or even surpass them. They are also developing a broad band solution. Cable companies, such as Comcast, refuse to be left in the dust by their competitors, even though the competition has become more one-sided than at any other point in history. If you compare satellite to cable, you can see that there is some room for improvement on their part.

With the stiff competition among providers, the future of HDTV looks incredible. Rather than being relegated to a small number of channels, that number is set to shoot skywards. Interactivity will be present, DVR's are being modified and entire homes will be able to be connected to the HDTV system of the consumer's choice. The one certain thing about the coming HDTV wars is that both cable and satellite providers will be there. In the end, this is the best thing for the consumer, giving them the ability to choose the system and the provider that best matches their wants and needs.

Samsung 1080p HDTV

The 21st century is witnessing large scale technology updates with the best technologies of yore being thrown out in no time. Such upgrades have been mostly pronounced in the field of audio and video systems.

Traditional television sets have given up their space for the ultra modern high definition television capable of transmitting greater resolution pictures. The device works on the principle of a digital camera where the higher number of mega pixel means better clarity. Here the image is broken into greater number of essential pixels. Likewise, a high definition TV breaks up information into smaller essentials, thereby increasing the capacity to display more.

Several generations of HDTV has come and gone, but the 1080p represents the latest fad. The number 1080 represents the number of vertical lines in each outline. The letter 'p' denotes progressive scanning. This impeccable television is just an astonishing 10mm thick.

The field of high definition TV has become totally cluttered and really confusing for an average customer. Almost all brands worth their salt have stepped in with their own products to woo customers. Standing out and being noticed in this jumble takes Herculean effort. And that is what the Samsung 1080p is doing now. It has already dethroned the erstwhile kings in the segment and is aiming for even further heights of glory.

The model has a 5 microsecond response time and this kind of speed is instrumental in removing any chances of the pictures getting distorted or blurred. Sharp contrast, exhilarating color quality and astonishing brightness are the forte of this Samsung HDTV. Additional features include hidden speakers with patented true surround sound technology, embedded digital tuner, high definition manual interface ports, monitoring systems and USB ports. These USB ports help you to play directly from a digital camera, music players etc. It is also mentioned here that Samsung LCD 1080p is compatible to almost all input devices like DVD players, including the latest blu-ray technology.

The Samsung 1080p high definition TV has taken home entertainment to a new level. The picture and sound clarity has to be seen to be believed. HDTVs are arguably cheaper to operate, costs less electricity and occupies less space. The Samsung model combines all these three virtues of high definition TV with superb performance and enjoyment. Surely, this is the gadget before which you can spend your entire leisure time while rewinding and recuperating.

Hidden speakers implanted in the TV casing transport your acoustic senses to a different world. The performance can match any of our premium 5.1 channel home entertainment system. It is no wonder that more and more people are coming into contact with the product. But let me warn you here. You would not be satisfied with anything less once you experience the performance of the Samsung 1080p high definition TV. Technologically, this is at the top of the heap and it reigns supreme in practicality too. Additionally, you can but the product from online stores without even stepping out of your house.

Editor's Pick - LG BD390 Network Blu-Ray Disc Player

Besides being one of the best Blu-ray players of 2009, the LG BD390 is one of the best entertainment gadgets to add to your home entertainment system. First of all this model has an amazing Blu-ray performance. It played Blu-ray and DVD movies very well and was also very fast in loading the movies. In fact, it is almost twice as fast as some other brands of Blu-ray players out there (no names shall be mentioned).

The LG BD390 also comes with a wide variety of features to make it a well-rounded entertainment unit. For one, it is one of the very few Blu-ray players in the market that has built-in wi-fi connectivity. This means that the player can play streaming content straight from the internet without the need of a LAN cable. Once connected, you can view content from sites like YouTube, CinemaNow and Netflix. It has on-board decoding for DTS HD and DolbyTrueHD sound formats as well as analog 7.1 outputs. This model also comes with 1GB of built-in memory.

The LG BD390 Blu-ray players sport a reserved look, with a black glossy front and an overall look that would subtly fit into the design of any space. On the front, there is a USB port where you can connect a USB drive of hard drive to the player (for viewing any downloaded content). When it was launched a couple of months ago, the LG BD390 was quite pricey making it less of an ideal choice for price-sensitive customers. Now, you can buy one of these for just around $237 each. Talk about getting the best at a bargain!

Blu Ray DVD Player Review LG BD 390 - Our Choice For Best Buy

Are you dissatisfied with your present video resolution? Are you not able to fully enjoy the movies you like the most? Blue-ray DVD player is the best option for those who wish to relish the beauty of the films and videos in high definition format. Here you do not simply watch the video, you virtually go through it and that defines the power of high definition!

High definition videos have revolutionized the world of entertainment altogether and enable the viewers to enjoy the mesmerizing power of the media. Be it your favorite videos or games or other data, the high resolution records take you to a different world. The clarity and resolution you experience from a high definition DVD is unmatchable, not to mention the old standard definition DVDs.

The optical disc storage medium, Blu-ray, was developed in a ground-breaking endeavor by the Blu-ray Disc Association. Blu-ray discs were created to record and playback the high definition videos. Even though HDTV sets made their appearance in the market, there existed no known systems to record and playback the high definition data. The discs were developed to store the high definition videos, PS3 video games and other information.

The optical disc format surpassed the ordinary format in several aspects which is evident from the immense storage capacity of the new format. The high definition discs can store up to 25 GB data on a single layer and about 50 GB information on the dual layer disc. The sophisticated audio and video codec of the new discs with their vast storage potential presents the customers the authentic, astounding features of the high definition.

The new format was assigned the name Blu-ray as it used the blue-violet laser for reading and writing the data contrary to the red laser used in other optical disc technologies.

The shorter wavelength of the blue-violet laser permits more stuffing of data in the disc, which is being cited as another plus of the Blu-ray DVDs. The physical dimension is more or less the same as that of the conventional DVDs and CDs.

Good quality Blu-ray DVD players display the same high quality, high resolution, colorful image with excellent clarity. The 1080 pixels resolution offered by the high definition discs has definite advantage over the old DVDs and the day will come soon when the old ones are almost displaced from the market.

Oppo BDP-83 is considered as the popular Blu-ray DVD player with unsurpassable standards even though the price is pretty high. The LG BD 390 is a good option for those who wish to set a medium budget, where one can avail the superior features and high speed at a moderate price. Among the players, Sony PS3 Slim gains competitive advantage by offering all the features at an affordable price. Our choice for best over all blu ray player when you take into account price and features is the Lg BD 390.

Blu-Ray Reviews Of The Sony BDP-S300 Multi-Region Blu-Ray Disc Player

Blu-Ray Disc Player: Excellent picture quality on Blu-ray and DVD; DVD upconversion up to 1080p; HDMI output. Right off the bat everyone in the room noticed the image quality from the Blu-Ray Disc Player S300, it's always comforting when the results right out of the box are at least on par with expectations, surpassing them is of course a nice bonus.

The SONY BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player is an important product, giving Blu-ray some much needed traction in the affordable player category. Combine that with recent news from rental powerhouse Blockbuster that it is expanding Blu-ray titles in its stores (at the expense of HD DVD in most cases), and the BDP-S300 looks like a no-brainer.

HQV Benchmark Results: The BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player scored very well with the standard definition HQV benchmark disc, it passed most of the tests with flying colors and was able to lock onto the 3:2 film cadence test faster than many other of the DVD and BD/HD players tested recently.

o Color Bar/Vertical Detail: Pass - Score 10 of 10

o Jaggies Pattern 1: Pass - Score 5 of 5

o Jaggies Pattern 2: Pass - Score 3 of 5

o Flag: Pass - Score 10 of 10

o Picture Detail: Pass - Score 10 of 10

o Noise Reduction: Pass - Score 10 of 10

o Motion Adaptive Noise Reduction: Pass - Score 10 of 10

o 3:2 Detection: Pass - Score 10 of 10

o Film Cadence: Pass - Score (Combined) 40 of 40

o Mixed 3:2 Film, Horizontal Text Crawl: Pass - Score 10 of 10

o Mixed 3:2 Film, Vertical Text Crawl: Pass - Score 10 of 10

o Total Score: 128 out of a possible 130.

And the remote is a good one- it controls both the player and a television.
Unlike Sony's first-gen BDP-S1 (and Pioneer Elite's BDP-HD1) the BDP-S300 will play back CDs, either from its analog audio outputs or any of its digital audio outputs, including HDMI.

Once loaded and running, the BDP-S300 performed like a gold medalist. The best Blu-ray Discs looked sensational at either 1080p/60 or 1080p/24. And for those using 720p displays, or displays that will not accept 1080p inputs, the player also performed beautifully when set for either a 720p or 1080i output.
The Sony BDP-S300 Multi-Region Blu-Ray is a sure winner
The Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player is a good one, with superb playback quality from Blu-ray Discs, and solid upconversion of standard definition DVDs for your legacy collection.

Description: Everyone will marvel at the stunning sound and picture quality of this second-generation Blu-ray Disc player. With remarkable features and versatile performance, the BDP-S300 is an amazing value.

BDP-S300 Strengths: Picture Quality

Strengths: Great picture and excellent sound

Weaknesses: None for me

Summary: I bought this Blu-Ray player last July to watch movies and it has worked flawlessly for me from day 1. I am not a viewer who will use picture in picture (which this does not have) nor do I play any of the games which are on some of the discs. I wanted a Blu-Ray player which gives me full HD video and great sound. The audio sounds great on my surround sound system when I use it. Sometimes I just use the TV speakers and the audio is excellent. If you are interested in a Blu-Ray player with outstanding video and excellent sound this player is for you.

Strengths: Plays Blu-Ray Discs, upconverts standard DVDs. Full 1080p output. Good array of audio outputs.

Strengths: Great picture when playing Blu ray Disk. Connected all audio connections at once except Coax, and all worked automatically...Great sound.

While the Sony BDP-S300 is an entry level Blu-ray player, entry level doesn't necessarily mean cheap. You're getting a capable high definition video player. VD's is lackluster at best and it only decodes Dolby Digital Plus. If you already have a capable upconverting DVD player and don't care about the decoding of Dolby TrueHD and the myriad of high definition DTS formats, this may be the Blu-ray player for you.

Summary: Sony has finally come out their second generation Blu-ray player at half the original price of the original! The BDP-S300 looks like a bargain compared to their previous BDP-S1 model.

Besides the cost benefit, you get more with this player. Unlike the previous model the S300 can play CDs in addition to DVDs. In addition, it seems to load slightly faster than the previous model.

All in all, the BDP-S300 delivers what it promises.

The new BDP-S300 model can output 1920 x 1080p (progressive) high-definition video, currently the highest resolution high-definition signal available through an HDMI(TM) connection. The player supports various video formats, including MPEG2, MPEG4-AVC and VC1.

For those who own an HDTV set without HDMI, an analog component output for 1080i (interlaced) is available as well.

The new BD player is compatible with most standard DVDs and has the added feature of 1080p upscaling through HDMI to 1080p capable HDTVs, improving the picture performance of existing DVD libraries.

Watching PIRATES I and PIRATES II I found the picture striking and vivid with no artifacts. My receiver is a delivers 5.1 DD so I am unable to take advantage of the uncompressed PCM codec. However, the Dolby digital audio track was quite impressive. All things considered, this an excellent player at a very good price.

This is an excellent BD Player for under $500! The picture quality is awesome!
Excellent upscaler quality for DVD movies

Below is mentioned that it can't be made region free. Only partially true. A California company already sells this model in a Multiregion (multi-region) version. It can play any Region A and B Blu-Ray Disc movie and display it on any TV that has HDMI input, regardless of video standard (PAL-SECAM-NTSC etc.)

This is a unit that we would buy for ourselves if it weren't for the fact that we couldn't make it region free, because we have a huge DVD collection with movies from regions 1 and 4. If you are going to play only region-free ("region 0") or region 1 discs then this unit is a great pick, especially because its cost/benefit ratio: great price and excellent image quality for DVDs - if the relative slowness of this unit doesn't bother you.

I haven't gone through all the bells and whistles yet, but the picture quality just floored me. Even my wife who really doesn't get the whole 'high def thing' was greatly impressed. We watched Pirates/Caribbean 2 and couldn't believe the quality.

Pros: Excellent picture quality, inexpensive for a Blu-ray player, offers HDMI upscaling to 1080p

Anyone looking to experience the formidable pleasures of watching movies on Blu-ray Disc, and at a reasonable startup cost, is advised to check out Sony's BDP-S300.

This is a magnificent Blu-ray DVD player. It enhances regular DVD viewing and presents Blu-ray discs in full 1080p (if you have a 1080p HDTV).

The video and sound quality is amazing!

Very good product for the money. Well worth getting if you want to get the best picture from your large widescreen HDTV.

"I have owned this Blu-ray player about 2 weeks. I purchased my first Blu-ray movie this past weekend and I was blown away by the full 1080p picture that it produces and the full digital sound is awesome. Be sure to purchase an hdmi cable for this player and you will not be disappointed. It will also upconvert standard DVD's to near HD quality."

Have this unit for a week and love it. Bought it for my husband from appliance bestbuys the price was great the units great and I would definitely tell everyone to buy this one if they want a good Blu ray without emptying their wallets.
